Abstract
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a markedly common malignant tumor. In addition to the physiological issues associated with SCLC, approximately 30% of patients present with concomitant neurological disorders during the evolution of the disease. Here, the case study of a 77-year-old man who was diagnosed with SCLC and received chemotherapy and prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI; 25Gy at 250cGy per fraction) is presented. Three months after the completion of PCI, he exhibited neurological deficits, including dementia, which progressed rapidly during the following two weeks. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed aggravating cerebral atrophy and white matter changes. Paraneoplastic syndrome and treatment-related adverse effects are suspected as the cause of his neurological disorder.
